A poem by Simon Tester

My Poker Apprentice

You marvelled at my reads

The judgements, the speeds

You fell under my wing

Like Queen to a King

You learned the cards quick

My secret bluffing trick

You listened hard

And studied all the cards

Then you saw you the fame

Then you saw the glory

Now you’re on your own

To write your own poker story

I gave you the skills that you have today

And lest we forget, I can take it all away.

The Story

This poem is about a friend I used to have who I trained in the art of poker. Being the founder of the TPT and a poker prodigy myself, I looked on those who were not as blessed with ability, and felt it appropriate to teach. He has now achieved considerable success in the sport but some argue he does not give enough credit to his master, mentor and role model.

“…and then out of nowhere he just grabs the chips.”
